Songs Of The Bladed Word

We hear words
From trusted comrades

Sharp blades digging deep
A twist each time spoken

Silent aches each time
Silent pain held throughout time

Spoken words without knowledge
Blades striking again and again

Unknown attack
Given in absent thought

A blow a phrase
A spirit’s decay

The gentle smile
Hides the hurt inside

The words are said
As the song of the blades

This poem was inspired when I thought about how children hear things spoken by adults and are affected by it for decades. Often times, the speaker is not aware of how deeply their words affected the child or children. I would like to think the words I say are well thought of and account for how they could be accepted by those around me. Unfortunately, I know this is not possible but it is a nice belief.
